The Seats Have Arrived

Posted: January 28, 2011 in Uncategorized

I ordered some seats off Ebay awhile back. These are Silverado seats from 2004-2007 trucks. They fit great without the center bench seat. They are one of the next projects to work on.

Mother Nature is Fatiguing

I recently pulled my vent windows off the truck. I realized early on there must be a problem with them. When I bought the truck they opened freely and swung with little resistance. After disassembly I found the problem. It turns out the vents work on a pivoting system built on a post of mild steel. This steel was bent about 45 degrees (shown below). One can only assume that the original owner of this truck loved to have his vent windows open at high speeds.

To solve the problem I did a pretty rigorous search for machine shops that do small jobs. Most shops turned me down on the phone… it really wasn’t worth their time. After that search failed miserably I took it to a large machine shop near my employer hoping to beg them for assistance. Luckily they are in a slow period and more than willing to take on a quick job. They machined new posts (pictured below) and I will weld them on the new vents. Problem solved. The moral here is that persistence pays off but sure fatigues you.

* It should be noted that this is one of 2 vent window mechanisms on International L-110s, this mechanism is made by Excel and was only on the earlier trucks.

We had some problems in the past with the literature section (namely the documents in it) requiring a Google login account. This is no longer the case and all documents are open to the public without login.

Documents, Documents, Documents!

Big thanks to Steve (SteveO) from the OldIHC Forums for providing me (us) with a bunch of supplemental IH documentation. Steve provided the following:

A lot of meat on them bones. Enjoy!
